Brother of Toulouse killer is charged over deaths

The preliminary charges were made when Abdelkader Merah appeared before an anti-terrorism judge near Paris.

Prosecutors claim to have evidence linking the 29-year-old to the crimes.

Abdelkader Merah has instructed his lawyer to make it clear he condemns what his brother has done. Anne-Sophie Laguens, Abdelkader Merah's lawyer, said: "There have been press leaks which are entirely false, in particular that Abdelkader Merah said he was proud of his brother's actions. He wants today to convey that this is untrue."

Abdelkader Merah was arrested while a 32-hour siege was underway at his brother's apartment following the killing of seven people in three separate attacks. Mohamed Merah was shot dead on Thursday when the siege ended in a gun battle with police.
