British Travel Agents Meeting in Slovenia

Slovenia's capital is hosting the annual convention of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) until Tuesday in what is a major event for the British travel industry.

The world's second largest travel association, ABTA brings together more than 1,200 companies with some 5,000 travel agent branches and around 900 tour operators.

Held at a different travel destination each year, ABTA annual conventions attract between 500 and 1,200 travel industry professionals.

Prior to the convention, Ljubljana will also be visited by some 25 journalists of Britain's leading travel media for professionals and the general public.

ABTA placed Slovenia among the highlights in its 2014 travel trends report, describing the country as small and perfectly formed - with unspoilt countryside, chocolate box towns and great skiing in the winter.

After Germany, the United Kingdom is Europe's second largest outbound tourism market, and as such very important for Slovenian tourism.

Slovenia attracted 2.26 million foreign visitors last year, close to 75,000 from the UK. Britons generated 245,000 overnight stays.

Major markets for Slovenian tourism are Italy, Austria and Germany.
