Biggest Ship Ever Sails into Koper Port

The port of Koper has welcomed the biggest ship so far, as the 334-metre Cenderillon of the French CMA CGM shipping company dropped anchor in Slovenia's sole sea port.

CEO of port operator Luka Koper Andraž Novak told the press on Monday that the arrival of Cendarillon marks an important step in Luka Koper's business strategy, which aims among other things to strengthen the port's ties with CMA CGM, which account's for some 25% of the port's total container transshipment.

Cendarillon, which has the capacity to carry 8,500 containers, will soon be followed by other similar ships of CMA CGM, the third biggest shipping company in the world, according to the firm's web page.

CMA CGM deputy vice president Philipe Lesbros told the press that the company was proud to be the first one to bring the first ship of such proportions to Koper.

The shipping company started cooperating with Koper a decade ago, sending here ships three times smaller than Cenderillon, according to Lesbros.
