Big money for big aircraft as Airbus and Boeing woo big spenders in Dubai

Boeing and Airbus are in a battle for orders at the Dubai Air Show as the Gulf's major airlines continue to spend big money on big aircraft.

The Dubai-based Emirates airline flashed the cash with both manufacturers buying 150 of Boeing's new 777s and 50 Airbus A380s.

Habib Fekih is President of Airbus Middle East:"Boeing launched its new 777X, with a great fanfare and large order.

That's how the game works, but we managed to sell 50 A380 to Emirates. 87 aircraft to Etihad, including 50 A350s, and some A330 cargo planes to Qatar Airways. The final result will be at the end of the year."

Boeing grabbed the first take off slot with some big orders on day one, but both companies are in for the long haul.

Jeff Johnson is President of Boeing Middle East:"It's good to have competition out there, it makes all of us better companies. One of the things we"ve done is try to show our commitment to the region ....and we are going to expand in other important markets , like Kuwait, like Iraq, so it is an exciting time to be in the Middle East. ".

It is competitive alright as Boeing boasts big sales with Emirates Airbus bounces back with orders from Etihad.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the fight.

Euronews correspondent at the show is Francios Chignac:"The match being played here by Airbus and Boeing is in the early stages and it appears that the Gulf companies will decide the final outcome," said our correspondent at the show, Francios Chignac.
