Slovenia's best male biathlete, Jakov Fak, finished third in the men's 12.5-km pursuit race in Austria's Hochfilzen on Sunday after placing third in the first World Cup sprint event of the season in early December.
Having displayed an impeccable performance, Fak was in the run for a victory until the very last moment when he missed one shot.
He came 10.9 seconds behind the winner, Martin Fourcade of France, while Germany's Simon Schempp placed second (+4.1 sec).
"I just carried on after the missed shot, without thinking much. You have to make the best out of it," he commented.
Coach Uroš Velepec meanwhile said it was great to hav
e your athlete among the first all the time.
"Of course there was a lot of stress...but I hoped Jakov would be among those who don't miss and who don't get scared. He eventually did everything the right way."
Fak is now third in the overall standings with 196 points behind Fourcade (216) and Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen (203).
His good result is an encouragement before Slovenia hosts next biathlon World Cup races on the Pokljuka slopes next week.
Another Slovenian, Klemen Bauer, placed 36th today.
