And the Guest Stars for 2011 are...

he Spanish ambassador, a German executive, a Madagascar-born artist and a Canadian ice-hockey player were voted the most notable expatriates in their respective categories as The Slovenia Times newspaper and Radio Slovenia International gave out the annual Guest Star awards in Maribor.

Spanish Ambassador Anunciada Fernandez de Cordova received the award in the diplomacy category, and the boss of headlight producer Odelo Slovenija, Klaus Josef Holeczek, won the economy category. John Huges of Canada, who plays ice-hockey for the Ljubljana-based team Olimpija, was chosen the most popular among expat athletes, and Joseph Rakotorahalahy, who was born in Madagascar but came to Ljubljana in 1977, won the title in the culture category. This was the eight time that readers of The Slovenia Times and listeners of Radio Slovenia International voted for what the organisers say are the most outstanding expatriates whose talent and personality directly contributes to the development and openness of the Slovenian society.
