Agri Minister to Join Food and Wood Companies in Expo Visit

Milan, 18 June - Agriculture, Forestry and Food Minister Dejan Židan will visit the ongoing Milan World Exposition on Thursday as part of a tour by around 40 Slovenian food and wood companies who will be looking for business opportunities.

Židan and Economy Ministry State Secretary Aleš Cantarutti will be on hand for a business conference that will bring together Slovenian and foreign companies to discuss the latest developments and opportunities for cooperation.

The conference will focus on the opportunities in the wood industry and food production, with Slovenia expected to be represented by 21 wood-processing companies and 22 food producers, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS).

The second visit by representatives of the wood-processing sector to Expo will feature participation in the Slovenian national day on Friday and business meetings with Italian companies.

Representatives from the sector are also scheduled to take part in an expert workshop organised by the city of Milan bringing together city officials, constructions companies, engineers and architects.

Representatives of Slovenian food companies are meanwhile due to hold a series of meetings with Italian wholesale and retail agents and Italian grocery chains.

They are also scheduled to visit the biggest Italian food logistics centre and a model supermarket of the future.

The visits have been organised by the GZS and are aimed at bolstering cooperation with Italy, which is a key export market for Slovenian companies.

In wood processing, Italy ranks as the second most important market for Slovenian companies, while in food it is fourth with a 12.5% share in exports, according to GZS data.
